The week following the Sunday of the Prodigal Son is called Meat-fare week and it terminates on the Sunday called Meat-fare Sunday. Meat-fare Sunday is the last day on which it was still permissible to eat meat before the Great Fast.
Meat-fare means “farewell to meat”.

In the parable. of the Prodigal Son, the father forgives his son when he returns and welcomes him home. In the same way, God waits for humans to realize what they have done wrong and ask for forgiveness and welcomes

Jesus said that people should be like the publican. They should not think they are better than other people. They should repent of their sins and ask God to forgive them.

The Sunday of the Encounter, also know as the Sunday of the Meeting of the Lord, is a feast observed in the Eastern Orthodox and Eastern Catholic Churches, typically falling on the Sunday closest to February 2nd. This feast commemorates the presentation of Jesus in the Temple and the encounter between the infant Jesus and two significant figures: Simeon and Anna.

The Three Hierarchs
are depicted in the icon of the feast full bodied and in a frontal pose. They are dressed in their hierarchical vestments, indicating their position as bishops of the Church.

A Jubilee year symbolizes renewal, reconciliation , and community healing, offering a chance for reflection and a fresh start. It encourages individuals and communities to come together , address past grievances, and foster hope for a better future.
